ICT Tools

What is ICT Tools?

The ICT devices are the latest tools, concepts and techniques used in student-to-teacher, student-to-student interaction

ICT Tools:

- Google Classroom is an online learning platform useful to both the teachers and the students. Teachers communicate with the students at anytime and anywhere through this tool. Learning materials, video lessons and other resources related to the course content are posted in the Google classroom. Students use this application to submit assignments, seminars in video form and other activity reports.

- Kahoot, a game based classroom response system, to encourage students to play quiz on the course content. Students enjoy this as it is visual and time bound. It helps the teachers to gauge students’ understanding level and modify the teaching methodology to suit their level.

- Testmoz an interactive online tool, to conduct quizzes to have a quick check on students’ understanding.

- Google Forms to take survey for assessment, feedback, reviews and to collect details on any area.

- QUIZIZZ is used by the teachers to create interactive learning exercises which include multiple choice questions, crosswords, cloze tests and puzzles.

- Power Point Presentations and online videos using ICT enabled Classrooms

- Management Information System (E-campus) facilitates teachers to maintain a complete profile of students including personal and academic details, attendance, CIA marks and fee payment details. It also acts as a Faculty Record Book that carries the complete details of the course. Every semester, feedback on teaching methodologies adopted by faculty members from the students is collected through E campus.

- Lectured videos are created by respective faculties for their concerned subject are uploaded in the institution YouTube channel for the benefit of student community.

Institutional Distinctiveness

Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, is a 23-year-old HEI that is constantly introducing revolutionary practices in the field of higher education. During the 12th ASSOCHAM National Educational Summit, the region's most preferred Engineering Institute received the South Award. It is ranked 31st in the country and 13th in the state. The institute is affiliated with Anna University in Chennai and was granted autonomy in 2016. The college offers 15 undergraduate programmes as well as six postgraduate programmes. College is recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956. It extended further with 5 programs accredited by NBA. Anna University has a permanent affiliation with 9 programmes and has recognized 4 programmes as research centres. 1. Peer Group Committee Meeting: 

The institute has launched a new peer group committee meeting for its students. These meetings take place on all weekends (Saturday) to ensure that HICET students have an excellent academic learning environment. The student members count 6-10 of all categories such as average, weak, and good in academic, hostel, day-scholars, other states along with Dean-academics, class advisor and all subject handling faculty members of the current semester are the members of the group. The attendees provide detailed feedback so that everyone receives individual attention. The diverse categories of group members allow for 360-degree monitoring of students' academic engagement. Students receive guidance, support, and encouragement from their experienced faculty members at each meeting, intending to develop academic competence and value education. Regularly, the meeting discusses student attendance, timetable, syllabus coverage, understanding ability, and other class-related activities, while also providing information on policies and procedures that are aligned with the expected learning outcomes.The report is regularly submitted to the Dean's office after its review and approval from the Head of the Department. It helps to build a strong relationship between their work and their course expectations. Thus, critical and motivating feedback boosts productivity, overall knowledge retention, and overall quality in both faculty and students at HICET.

2. Course Information Sheet:

The curriculum at Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology is designed in such a way that students are trained in the most recent technological developments, preparing them for employment in the industry. The institution has successfully implemented Outcome Based Education (OBE). The primary goal of every course is to establish rapport with students. Prior to the start of the course, a carefully facilitated Course Information Sheet (CIS) is prepared. The sheet is divided into twenty-three points, which are as follows: (1) Academic Year, (2) Name of faculty, (3) Department, (4) Programme, (5) Class and semester, (6) Course code and title, (7) Regulations, (8) Core / Elective, (9) Contact hours, (10) Type of course, (11) Number of credits, (12) Course pre-requisites, (13) Course learning objectives, (14) Expected outcome of the course, (15) Course Syllabus, (16) Course Materials, (17) Course plan, (18) Weightage of unit contents, (19) Mapping syllabus with Bloom’s Taxonomy LOT and HOT, (20) Mapping course outcome with Bloom’s Taxonomy LOT and HOT, (21) Mapping Course outcome with graduate attributes, (22) Mapping with programme educational objectives, and (23) Course assessment methods. The major consideration in the CIS is that the weightage for each unit's contents is analyzed using factors such as i) the number of periods allotted for teaching, ii) the usefulness of the content concerning student employment, and iii) the usefulness of the content in understanding other units of the same subject and other subjects prescribed for the programme. If useful, the weightage is set to 1; otherwise, it is set to 0. Faculty members must obtain approval for their Course Information Sheet from the Head of the Department, Dean- Academics, and Principal as early as possible before the start of classes. Throughout the semester, faculty members adhere to the CIS to be actively involved in the teaching process and to engage individual students in the course.

3. Dynamic SAE (Society of Automotive Engineering) Professional Club:

The institution's goal is to encourage students' talent and sharpen their leadership, teamwork, and management abilities. This can be accomplished by offering opportunities to participate in outside events, organizing events, special workshops, and so on. HICET has a dynamic SAE Professional Membership Club that promotes professional growth by giving members access to leadership and career-building opportunities. Our faculty members serve as chairman and treasurer for the SAE-ISS Coimbatore division. Students have access to the most up-to-date technological resources. From 2014 to 2019, the institute SAE club received 49 awards totaling Rs. 5, 15,000/- in cash. The major awards are the Best Acceleration Award, the Endurance Award, the Best Innovation Award, the Best Acceleration Award, the RSTE Visionary Award, the Dronacharya Award, and so on. Every year, the institution contributes to the professional development of faculty and students on registration, vehicle construction, travel, and lodging. The club focuses on connecting with the best in the industry and developing a peer network among SAE members. Every year, the institution hosts an SAE “Student Convention Programme” and a “Heavy Terrain Vehicle Competition” in which national-level students compete. The institute also organizes the “SAUR URJA Vehicle Challenge”, a national-level solar electric vehicle design competition sponsored by the Refrangible Society.

Institutional Initiatives for Electoral Literacy

Whether Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) has been set up in the College?

Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) has been set up in the institution in 2018 and is functioning along with National Service Scheme (NSS).

The Principal is the Chairperson of the Club with NSS Program Officer as the Faculty Coordinator. Two students are also appointed as student coordinators. 100 students are members in it.

The primary objective of the club is sensitizing the student community about democratic rights which includes casting votes in elections.

Whether students’ co-ordinator and co-ordinating faculty members are appointed by the College and whether the ELCs are functional? Whether the ELCs are representative in character?

Yes. The ELC has both faculty coordinator and student coordinators, appointed by the Head of the Institution.

The ELC is functioning with the following Objectives.

--To create awareness and interest among faculties and students through awareness activities

   and camps.

--To educate the targeted populations about voter registration, electoral process and related

   matters.

--To familiarize the targeted populations with EVM and to educate them about robustness of

   EVM and integrity of the electoral process using EVMs.

--To help the target audience understand the value of their vote to ensure that they exercise

   their suffrage right in a confident, comfortable and ethical manner.

--To facilitate voter registration for its eligible members who are not yet registered.

--To develop a culture of electoral participation and maximize the informed and ethical voting

   and follow the principle ‘Every Vote Counts’ and ‘No Voter to be Left Behind’.

The ELC Club imbibe the commitment and character in every member of the institution.

What innovative programmes and initiatives undertaken by the ELCs? These may include voluntary contribution by the students in electoral processes-participation in voter registration of students and communities where they come from, assisting district election administration in conduct of poll, voter awareness campaigns, promotion of ethical voting, enhancing participation of the under privileged sections of society especially transgender, commercial sex workers, disabled persons, senior citizens, etc.

Our student, Ms Mathushree has received an award from the Coimbatore District Collector for Voters Day Awareness Drawing Competition. 

Any socially relevant projects/initiatives taken by College in electoral related issues especially research projects, surveys, awareness drives, creating content, publications highlighting their contribution to advancing democratic values and participation in electoral processes, etc.

--The institution has arranged facilities in the premises to conduct training programs to the School Teachers by the District Election Officer.

--Students of the institution actively participate the Government programs in Electoral process. Our student, Ms Mathushree has received an award from the Coimbatore District Collector for Voters Day Awareness Drawing Competition. 

Extent of students above 18 years who are yet to be enrolled as voters in the electoral roll and efforts by ELCs as well as efforts by the College to institutionalize mechanisms to register eligible students as voters.

The students above 18 years age are cultured to be the registered voter by way of awareness camps and pledge.

The ELC conducts year-wise camps for the same.

Institutional Preparedness for NEP

1. Multidisciplinary/Interdisciplinary:

The institution has started implementing National Education Policy 2020 in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research Programmes. Through the new Regulations 2022 of the institution, Minor Degrees with a Multidisciplinary / Interdisciplinary nature, Honors Degrees with Specialization, and Interdisciplinary Courses have been introduced to suit the level of students from one discipline who are eager to have a taste of other disciplines. This is done by creating horizontal and vertical movements of courses. Also, a group of interdisciplinary courses is available as electives known as Open Electives. In Open Electives, two new-era Technology Courses are made mandatory and the other Courses cover Life Skills. Value Added Courses that cover the aspects that are not in the curriculum prescribed by the disciplines but add value by way of seeding the concepts of Soft Skills, Communication, Entrepreneurship, Design Thinking, etc., to make them better professionals. In addition, multi-disciplinary courses that hone managerial skills such as Financial Management, Digital Marketing, etc., related to the handling of finance are offered. Choices are given to the students to study Foreign Language Courses such as Japanese and French.

2. Academic Bank of Credits (ABC):

The institution is a registered member of National Academic Depository (NAD) to validate the authenticity and safe storage of academic awards viz. certificates, diplomas, degrees, mark-sheets etc. The institution NAD ID is NAD007029. The institution is getting ready towards digitalizing the certificates of students for uploading in the ABC portal. As suggested in the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), the students will be given freedom to study in any institution across the country of their choice. To enable credit transfer and joint degrees through collaborations and internationalization of its education, the college has signed MOUs with 5 Foreign Universities. For the effective implementation of the above, the college has a flexible Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Outcome Based Education (OBE) in its regulations. As a prelude to the implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits prescribed in the NEP, the institution has formulated a well-defined credit system in which the following features are either incorporated already or planned to be included in the Regulations 2022. • Exchange of credits for courses and internships done in collaboration with industry partners / foreign universities. • Credits earned through online courses such as SWAYAM are already being considered for the award of the degree. • Credits can also be earned by publishing papers or patents. • Extra credit courses are also incorporated to help advanced learners. • Redesigning of the curriculum is being planned to suit the Multiple Entry-Multiple Exit scheme, so that suitable certification, diploma, graduate degree, post-graduate degree, and doctorate can be awarded at the appropriate time based on an extension of the same course of study.

3. Skill Development:

In order to enhance the skill and employability of our students, 3 Employability Enhancement Courses (EEC) are added to the curriculum in semesters I & II. In the III and IV semesters, more Employability Enhancement Courses (EEC) are added to the curriculum as mandatory courses with zero credit. In the VI and VII semester, 1 Employability Enhancement Course (EEC) was added as a mandatory course with one credit. As per NEP, entrepreneurial skills are important to the students studying in the technical Institution, so as to contribute to the economy of our country. Toward achieving this, the institution started an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and organizes many programs in this regard. To focus on providing more employability skills, the college offers a minimum of 6 Value Added Courses (VAC) per programme. In other words, 90 Value Added Courses (VAC) and Vocational Courses are conducted for our UG and PG students. Apart from that, many courses have been integrated with the curriculum itself. Industry people from IBM, Microsoft, Eicher and Royal Enfield are engaged in providing various skill courses for our students. In addition to the above hands-on training on computer hardware and mobile services workshops have been conducted usually to make the students gain practical knowledge. Mandatory Internship/Industrial Training gives opportunities for the student to get exposure in the industrial arena. AICTE sponsored IDEA Lab is opened for all the students for 24/7 (all the time). This helps the students to experiment their ideas and making products in the college itself. Apart from this, the Industry Institution Partnership (IIP) initiated to help our students to develop the skills. The available Industry-Partnered Centers, Competency Development Centers, Professional Societies focuses on skill development for all the students in both technical and soft skills. The college also, through Corporate Relations Team (CRT), conducts free placement training throughout the course.

4. Appropriate integration of Indian Knowledge system (teaching in Indian Language, culture, using online course):

The integration of Indian Knowledge System in the curriculum has been done with suitable syllabus. The students are learning the Indian Knowledge System with emphasis on teaching Indian Languages, Culture, Indian Heritage Knowledge and Medicinal Values of Indian Echo System has also been taught to all the students of our institution. The faculty members clearly explain the value system that exist in Indian tradition and social life. The students are also given exposure about the Indian knowledge system through participation in culturally important places of India. The college is having 30+ Clubs which organizes many events regularly in order to inculcate cultural and social values in the minds of students. Yoga classes are conducted in the college campus regularly and this has been made as mandatory for 3 Week Induction Program for I year students. Multicultural functions are organized to showcase the culture of Tamil, Kerala and other Parts of India.

5. Focus on Outcome Based Education (OBE):

Outcomes based education (OBE) is the highlighted trend these days in education area to the students in their professional career and lead them too greater informed and creative. OBE is very well implemented in the institution. To gain the attributes detailed for outcome based totally right overview techniques are required, due to the fact assessment of the graduate attributes plays a key position in coaching gaining knowledge of system to enhance the device and to improve the overall performance of college students. Eleven programmes offered/applied are accredited/to be accredited by NBA thereby the Graduate Attributes (POs) as highlighted in ‘Washington Accord’ are taken care in the formation of curriculum. The Outcome Based Education (OBE) within the framework of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) also renders all the flexibility in devising the curriculum and syllabus. The institution is practicing Outcome Based Education by defining appropriate Program Outcomes (POs), Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) and Course Outcomes (COs) and for all the programmes and courses offered. At the end of the course, mapping of the laid-out COs to POs/ PSOs are carried out and attainment of the POs/PSOs meticulously evaluated through attainment of COs. Employability Enhancement Courses, Internship, Mini Project, Project Work, Industrial Training, Value-Added Courses through which student understands industrial requirements and emerging technologies and can enhance their skills for industrial employability. These courses are part of the syllabus to make the education outcome based. Further, students’ assessment is made through continuous internal assessments like periodical tests, assignments, seminars, peer team teaching, group discussions, and quizzes.

6. Distance Education/Online Education:

The institution desires to impart both distance education and online education in view of NEP 2020 to upskill the knowledge for global competency with the approval of Distance Education Bureau of UGC. The institution has all the necessary infrastructure and necessary tools to offer both distance education and online education. The institution was highly successful in offering online classes through online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft teams, etc. The faculty members have created 600+ e-content. In order to utilize the online resources, the pedagogy process is carried out through google classroom for each course offered. It contains a syllabus, course plan, and soft copy of course material, course handout, and question bank/ previous end semester examinations question papers which increase the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process. Faculty members and students also use online resources like SWAYAM, NPTEL, Coursera, edX, ICT Academy’s Leanathon, NASSCOM’s Future Skill Prime, etc. The online platforms like Kahoot, Hot Potato, Testmoz, QUIZIZZ and Mentimeter are used to assess the understanding level of students while delivering the lecture itself. The College Management System (E-campus) facilitates teachers to maintain a complete profile of students including personal and academic details, attendance, CIA marks and fee payment details. It also acts as a Faculty Record Book that carries the complete details of the course. Every semester, feedback on teaching methodologies adopted by faculty members from the students is collected through E-campus.

Post Accreditation Quality Initiatives

The backbone of the institution is the quality improvement strategies that it adopts from time to time for the processes concerned with the effective functioning of the institution. IQAC is a prime body to suggest, plan and execute the programs associated with quality strengthening approaches. Hence it works in concurrence with various statutory and non-statutory bodies to enhance the teaching-learning, research, innovation, outreach and other processes.

Student Quality Assurance Cell (SQAC) helps in discharging the initiatives taken by the IQAC to provide holistic education. Students represent in various bodies like Board of Studies, Student Council, Committees, Clubs and Associations.

Two practices institutionalized as a result of IQAC initiatives are 

i) Establishment of Competency Development Centers

The IQAC has initiated the establishment of Competency Development Centers to improve the technical competency of the teachers and students.

HiCET has established 22 Competency Development Centers (CDC) to enhance the skills and knowledge of its students. These centers offer students a wide range of activities, workshops, and training programs aimed at developing technical skills.

The CDCs at HiCET focus on emerging technologies and industries, such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, renewable energy and others. By providing hands-on training and exposure to the latest technologies and industries, HiCET's CDCs help students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to succeed in the fast-paced and rapidly changing world of technology.

ii) IPR and Patent

The IQAC has established the Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology approved IPR center in 2021.

HiCET has strong focus on innovation and intellectual property protection. The faculty and students at HiCET have been actively involved in the creation and development of unique and original works, as evidenced by their published and granted patents.

This is a testament to the institutions commitment for promoting research, innovation and the protection of intellectual property.
